*Went to the aquarium yesterday. Jess and I watched the following animal species have sex in front of hundreds of oblivious field-tripping 6 year olds: Sea Lions, Ducks, Sea Lions, Sea Horses...talk about a good day

*Played music for 2,000 koreans the other day...it's weird playing music knowing that everyone in the crowd plays piano

*My friend Luke made a video for me when I couldn't eat cheese for a while...he ate an entire block of cheddar cheese while lip syncing and playing piano to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"...that is friendship (and a thousand calories)

1. if you are my roommate and you decide to write your name on a cup...there is a 100% chance that the words "likes boys" will be added to the cup within a 24 hour period.

2. in my 21 years of existence, I have never said I am going to "watch THE game" and been referring to basketball. Basketball is for felons.

3. Intro...Modulation...Verse 1...that is real music

4. finding space on the walls of your room to hang a 13x20 framed ronald reagan poster and a full size american flag is a lot harder than you'd think...trust me

5. knowing that your entire grade in a class depends on how well you can read/comprehend a book called "Once Upon a Quincineira" is pretty much the worst feeling in the entire world.

6. It's nice to know that national day of prayer is celebrated everywhere except in the white house, where Obama cancelled his ceremony.

7. I think I need to teach my teeth to be a little less hospitable. I swear when I eat popcorn it's like they say, "hey little guys, don't go. just hang out for a bit."

8. I almost slept through a major presentation in my marketing class this morning. Instead, I woke up at the last second from a text message. It read, "I wish you would step back from that ledge, my friend..." It was from Luke. That's friendship.

There are 27 million people in slavery right now. More than any other time in history.

Does anyone even care?

I can tell you just about every fact there is to know about the black slavery that used to exist in America thanks to our current education system. In fact, I just finished reading yet another book about it. Here's the problem: I get it. Africans were loaded on ships in the most inhumane way possible, and shipped to America to be sold and used as slaves for their entire lives, often separated from their families and never living a single day of freedom. I understand that. I am glad I was taught it. If I could do anything to change what happened, I would.

But starting right now, the best case scenario that can be had in forcing every student in America to continually learn more and more about it is:

1. Teachers feeling good about themselves

2. Students feeling like they are supposed to feel guilty?

Compare that to the benefits of education on the current slavery issue that STILL exists in the United States and all around the world. Best case scenario is ACTION. That means actual movement in a certain direction. I can physically change people's lives today. If I had 10 dollars and I could donate it to a Martin Luther King foundation or a human trafficking rescuing organization, which would be a more valuable investment?

Isn't there just a little bit of insanity in how little the secular world talks about modern day slavery? There's no way we let our students get through high school without learning all about how miserable it was to be a Japanese family in a WWII internment camp, or a slave in the south, or a vietnamese refugee...but what about the fact that RIGHT NOW...TODAY...I can purchase a 10 year old girl to have sex with for 12 dollars. And when I am done, I can bring her back to her cage where she lives.

Say that. Read that sentence out loud. Use the word "I". Don't say "You". I dare you.

Call me insane for thinking this way, but unless you have a time machine you can offer, I think we have plenty of battles to fight RIGHT NOW.

Attention: Jr. High and High School Students

Do you want to be in the top 10% of your college class? Learn how to do the following three things well:

-Reading

-Writing

-Arithmetic (Also known as math)

I cannot begin to tell you how many people in college absolutely CANNOT write an essay, spell words correctly, do simple math with or without a calculator, or read properly. Depending on what college you choose to go to, one of two things will happen:

1. You will continue to be bombarded with multiculturalism, poems by feminists and socialists, and buried up to your neck in words like "ethnocentric." You will not leave college until you are covered in shame for being an American and set out determined to right the wrongs of your guilt-stained past one energy efficient lightbulb at a time.

2. You will be hit with reality...and fail miserably.

Regardless of which college you go to, you eventually have to enter the real world, in which you will absolutely fail if you have still not figured out those three skills. Here's the problem: In the real world, stuff has to get done. Period. If you live on a college campus of 40 thousand students, it's easy to forget that. Unfortunately, many college professors choose to use all four plus years to "educate" you on their own opinions of the world, rather than preparing you to get stuff done. It's called business...getting stuff done...being effective. That's how the world functions.

Don't forget this: College campuses are not the real world. Most of the professors you will have can't even get fired no matter what they do. That's not the real world. You need to learn how to live in the real world.

Not worth going into this anymore right now. Bottom line: Get good at those three things. Those are the tools for getting things done, and there is no guarantee that you will ever be taught them.

Book Review: In, But Not Of

Just finished up this little book:

I had asked my dad to try and find a book for me to read along the lines of Christianity and conservatism. Hugh Hewitt is one of the greatest men in both those areas. The book was awesome. Just over 200 pages, but was separated into 50 chapters that covered just about every practical topic you could imagine. To be honest, a lot of the content is aimed at Ivy Leaguers, of which I am not. However, it felt good to read a book that didn't waste any time developing its points. Hugh Hewitt basically just tells it like it is, covering things like college, job interviews, conversation, church membership, knowledge, networks, blogging, tattoos, exercise, and leisure time...just to name a few. I would say, however, that this book is about 80% aimed at people under the age of 25.

Great book.....B+

Josh Beckett just got suspended 6 games. That's about right. All this time off might help him think about how stupid you have to be to throw a fastball at a guy's head after time is called. I'm all for throwing the pitch and not stopping your arm rotation but come on. If you actually like the Red Sox, in which case I am sorry, you have to admit how stupid your pitcher looked when he walked to the plate like a tough guy...

Here's a quick social tip that applies both on and off the field, Josh: When you throw an object at someone's head at a velocity that can kill them, don't approach them with anything other than an apology.

Josh chose to approach the plate with the following statement: "Look how stupid I am, keeping my head high as I initiate a brawl with a team who just lost a player in a car accident. Oh and while you're at it, look at how stupid my necklace is."

It's not even worth going any farther into how dumb this is in light of Adenhardt's death. That is obvious.

Police pursuit on the 241 toll road this morning featured a woman driving a silver Scion xB (Not the new model, the legit-a-box)...dang...what more could I ask for other than getting to see it in person like Travis did. dangit.

If you get a chance to see the video it will definitely make you happy. Basically the cops get over this lady...and when she tries to get all Fast and Furious 4 on her turns they just send her spinning and next thing you know she's surrounded by cop cars and being yanked out of her window. Awesome.

It ends right next to Tesoro High School, which basically looks like and might as well be a prison, so they probably just took her straight there...

Now that baseball season is here, I am beginning to be reminded that I don't love everything that comes with it.

Example: Swarms of girls who pretend like they care about baseball and take pictures of themselves throughout the entire game, only to post them on Facebook for all the world to see what a waste of tickets they are.

I will now provide the following step-by-step instructions for de-friending me from Facebook to anyone who wishes to take part in said activities:

The United Nations decided to participate in Earth Hour 2009. That's when people turn off their lights for 1 hour out of the year and then brag about it to all their friends for all the other hours left in the year.

The U.N. released a statement bragging about how by shutting off the lights of their office buildings for 1 hour they would save $81,000.

A story was released with the U.N.'s claim, and soon after, a U.N. spokeswoman called to report that the initial estimate was a little off. Their new estimated savings was then stated to be $24,000.

The spokesperson then called back a third time and stated that the actual estimated savings would be $102.

Haven't posted anything in a while. Sitting in the back of my last class before Spring Break '09 No Regrets. Not sure what to post, unless you want to read my lecture notes from AMST 301 that I am barely taking right now. What is AMST 301 you ask? Oh I dunno...maybe a little something called "The History of the American Character."

Sounds right up my alley, eh? Wrong. It sucks. Just another America is evil, let's pretend like society just needs to respect each other and then we'll have peace and harmony, religion is evil, capitalism is evil, blah blah class. Side note: All the relevant Christians will forever wonder why their viewpoints will always be grouped together with anti-religious viewpoints, and people who hate religion. Have fun with that.

Capitalism Volleyball

My dear friend Travis Prouty and I paid a visit to the Cal State Fullerton fitness center last night. Travis played almost 3 hours of volleyball. I myself worked out here and there, bouncing in and out of the volleyball festivities. You see, at the beginning, we were playing some simple 4 on 4. I couldn't have been more bored in my entire life. No one cared which team won, they just wanted someone to set them up for a perfect spike. So I went and worked out for a bit and came back later to an entirely different scenario:

There were about 20 people, all in lines playing 3 on 3. You could get in the server line, the setter line, or the back court line. Whatever three people were up next challenged three people on the other side, if they scored, they went to the other side, and played till another set of three people got a point off of them. All the sudden, everyone was trying their hardest, people cared about scoring regardless of if they personally got the point. People actually got excited, got angry, there were actual emotions, and most importantly, high fives.

Personally, I have been playing something like this for a while now. It's what I call, "Capitalism Volleyball." Whenever there are too many people who want to play (at the beach or the park or what not) and we agree we need to rotate players in, I suggest my Capitalism Volleyball rather than traditional turn taking. Capitalism volleyball simply means that you play until you make a mistake, then you have to sub. Of course this means that the team has to make substitutions more often, but it also means that EVERYONE PLAYS HARDER.

Think about it, when it was 4 on 4, everyone realized that no matter what happened they would still get to play. They were playing volleyball with the other 4 people, but no one was COMPETING for their spots. So everyone just screwed around and tried to slam the ball as hard as they could, not really caring if they got a point. If there are people ready to replace us if we don't do our best in anything, we are going to definitely try a lot harder.

Look at some of the most dysfunctional systems in America, and you will find two things in common:

1. Government

2. The employees are in no danger of being replaced

This includes things like the DMV and the teacher's union. Think how great teachers would be if the better ones got paid more, and people wanted to compete for those positions and earn more money. Instead, they are all paid the same, and guaranteed their jobs for life. The result is failure. California Unified School District has a 50% dropout rate.

This silly volleyball analogy could be applied to hundreds of things. But that is all for now. Trying to keep this post short. Capitalism still rules. Don't try and be trendy. Competition is the most effective vehicle for bringing about high performance, and that is true in your life whether or not you voted for Barack Obama.

I can't believe March Madness is already here. Got my bracket selections locked in, and feeling pretty confident. I would love to see San Diego State make a big run, but I really see it coming down to UCONN and 5th ranked Kansas State. I definitely see Georgia Tech with their power offense being in the final four, and I think TCU and UCF have a good shot at going deep and surprising some people. What a great year! What a great season!! Of course when all is said and done I believe that there is not a better and more complete team to bring home the title than UCONN. It has been an up and down season for the lady huskies, but I really think they have dialed it in and have been on a tear to finish out the regular season, as well as their conference tournament. I will post my full bracket. Feel free to let me know where you agree/disagree. Would love to talk some hoops. Shoot me a comment!

Best college baseball prospect ever?

I read this article a few days ago and it blew me away. If you like baseball, or if you just like America, you should definitely read it. Side note: I don't actually know the difference between liking baseball and liking America. If there is one, please inform me.

Anyway, this guy is said to be the best prospect in the history of baseball by many scouts. He pitches for San Diego State, and he is pitching his 4th game of the season tonight at 6 PM. If you have ESPNU you might be able to watch it, in which case, please call me so I can watch it.

Cell phone background game

My friends and I play a very simple ongoing cell phone game that I highly recommend. The rules are as follows:

*If you can get someone's phone, take a picture, set it as their desktop background, and place the phone right back where it was BEFORE they realize anything, then they have to leave it as their background for 24 hours

Other than building (or tearing apart) strong friendships, the game also teaches the importance of knowing where your valuables are at all times. Personally, I have always been very sloppy with my phone placement. Therefore, I present you with a series of pictures that have each spent 24 hours as my phone background:

Wildside School Wars: Week 1

Here are some photos from Week 1 of School Wars in Wildside. Basically, for the three week series, the entire service is American Gladiators ish, with leaders dressing up as different themed gladiators. At the end of the service, there is a message on video that is geared towards visitors. There are 8 teams for all three weeks, each team representing one or two schools.

My outfit, of course, was America themed. I decided to be a traditional American Gladiator. Some of the other gladiators included:

We had to watch a movie called, "What's Cookin'?" in my American Studies class. Basically, the purpose of the movie was to teach people that all races and cultures are equal and that we can all come together and love each other and respect our differences. I thought we already had that movie, it's called The Mighty Ducks. Anyway, the asian family had to deal with issues such as teenage sex and gun violence. The white family had to deal with homosexuality issues. The black family had to deal with infidelity in marriage. The asian family had to deal with intercultural dating and divorce. It was like watching the first season of The OC, only it was a whole lot more awkward to yell..."Holy godzilla this sucks!!"

Anyway, the movie brought up a very interesting point. There was an intense dinner table conversation between the black father (played by none other than President David Palmer/Allstate guy himself) and his son. The father is angry because he was paying for his son to go to a great business school and the son dropped out. The son was just bumming his way through life and he said he was going to go to an all black college and major in African American studies. The very smart father tells him that a business degree is much more valuable.

Then it gets good...another father at the dinner table steps in and says to the boy, "It's about finishing what you started." Instantly, the rebellious teenage daughter of that dad says, "Ya dad, like how you walked out on mom?"

Dun dun duuuuuuuun. Looks like we have another stupid movie on our hands. Hollywood loves this stuff. Here's the problem: Whether or not you are a hypocrite doesn't actually change what is true. People who function on emotions never understand this. These are the people who makes movies, and people who like watching The OC.

Let's break this down:

Father: Finishing what you start is important ----TRUE
Daughter: You didn't finish what you start when it came to marrying mom. ----TRUE

The second statement cannot VOID the first statement. They are both separately true. You can't just make some stupid emotional movie scene that is supposed to make me think that the rebellious teenagers are actually ok just because they bring up their parents' mistakes. Ridiculous.

Here's an idea...maybe your parents DID make mistakes...but maybe you are STILL INSANE! It's possible that it can be both...the only problem is that your parents aren't STILL insane, and you are. Woops. Looks like I'm not getting the message that was intended. This movie is stupid.

I should write movie reviews. I think I just did. It feels right.

I was scrolling through the World Baseball Classic rosters today and realized that there are professional athletes now who were born in 1990. That is insane. I remember growing up you always ask your friends what year they were born in...and for me everyone was always 80 something...but friends little brothers and sisters were born in 1990 or 91 and we thought that was crazy. Not to mention how crazy it is to completely miss out on the greatest decade ever.

Group Presentation

I hate group projects. I hate when a teacher tells the class to form groups for the rest of the semester and all I want is to just join a group with all the smartest girls, but I always end up with the guys that bring skateboards to class. The teacher made us pick a name for our group and a kid in the group said..."how about Team America." I knew right then that I was in the right group.

Anyway, our group is terribly lazy but very awesome. So far two groups have presented. The first group had an interactive quiz after their presentation and if you got a question right you got a cookie. The second group did the same thing except you got candy. My group always sits in the back and surfs the internet until cookies and candy are on the line...then we clean the house. I think we answered almost every single question and stole all the delicious treats.

For our presentation on Monday, we want to do something original for prizes. Instead of stupid candy or cookies, we decided that we were gonna be so legit that we just give out crisp 1 dollar bills. One kid from the group is going to go to the bank and get the freshest crispest 1 dollar bills available to hand out to anyone who answers a question correctly. When's the last time you made money in class? That's right. Team America is bringing education to the next level.

I had to write a paper over the weekend for my Writing for Communications class. We had to describe how we feel about working in groups, and what our expectations are for our current group/group project this semester in class.

I put it off all week in Ohio, and finally opened up my computer to write it on the plane trip home before Russell and I used up all the rest of the laptop battery to watch Muse: Live from Wembley Stadium...daaaaaang. Anyway, here is the first paragraph I wrote:

Entering into my third year of college, it is safe to say that I have had my fair share of group activities, projects, and various assignments. To be honest, my overall experience with group projects has been sub-par, and by sub-par I mean terrible. However, as this new semester begins, I like to look back on the wise words my father used to always say to me: “Terrible just means there’s lots of room for improvement.” My dad never actually said that, but I’m still going to keep the positive attitude.

Ohio 2009: Day 1

Wow.

can't really begin to type everything that happened yesterday. I am going to have to resort to a bulleted list of things that actually happened all in the same day:

*Woke up (around 11 ish)

*Timmons texted everyone to see if they wanted to swim with him...no takers

*I asked Timmons if he swam laps...he said..."Well I wouldn't really call it that"

*Ate in a foodcourt that has two subways and multiple breakfast places...but no mexican food

*That is stupid.

*I ordered a basket of chicken strips and fries...then asked for ranch...and the guy put his hand out for my basket back...and a whole group of people standing with me watched as the guy poured ranch sauce all over the entire basket like they were nachos...I just shouted merry christmas to everyone and loved every bite

*Met Alex and Brett Harris, who spoke that night...really cool guys

*Music and the service went very well

*Had dinner with the Fields family, McGill, Alice, and others...and ate some dessert nachos...ice cream and fried cinnamon sugar chips

*Griff and Jake rode in on Segways in referee outfits for the Segway olympics

*Afterwards we bundled up and went for Segway runs around downtown Columbus

*This was about midnight ish...cruisin down the streets...Cody Fields and me

*Other Segway riders included: Josh Griff, Jake Rute, Torie and Cassie Fields, Matt Hall, Kurt Johnston, Jason Carson, Chuck Bomar, Matt McGill, Allison Hibbard, and anyone else who walked by

*We then took the segways and 20 other people and raided a room that won a free pizza party...rode into the room on segways and then had a nice dance party

*Dance party resulted in getting yelled at pretty good by some neighbors who apparently like to be asleep at 1:50 AM

*Got in Griff's rental car with Grif, Leo, Mike, and Brian (Irvine, San Clemente, Corona youth pastors) and tried to find the wal-mart supercenter at 2 AM to buy air hogs planes and missile launchers

*First one was closed...but we hit up the Sonic drive-in next door and got some slushies

*Found another wal-mart that was open and bought everything we could

*Did some hotel test flights on our planes around 2:30 AM...my plane was red, white, and blue and bigger than the other planes...we called it Ronald Reagan...we crashed it pretty hard, but we're gonna give him another shot during today's final test flights

That's pretty much all I can remember...pretty sure Matt McGill had the best line of the day again. The band that played the concert (Braddigan) had a percussionist who used his hand on a Cajon and a drumstick in the other hand...McGill thought he was twice the drummer I was because he could play drums and hold a taco in the other hand.

But then again, Matt McGill also came a few feet away from killing a family of four with a Segway in the hotel lobby. If only I got it on video...oh wait...I did:

Ohio 2009: Day 0

Flight for National Youth Ministry Conference was supposed to leave at 11:45...we ended up getting on the plane around 1...sitting on the runway...and then taking off around 2:20.

Our connection was through Chicago. I hate Chicago. But I love Frank Thomas. Oh man do I love Frank Thomas.

I also found my house, first time I've ever done that. I found the Santa Margarita Parkway bridge over O'Neil park and worked my way. Pretty sweet. Turbulence on the flight was out of control. Felt like a roller coaster...except without tracks...and with peanuts...except that they ran out of peanuts...so it was still much like a roller coaster in the "no peanuts available" sense.

We landed in Chicago with exactly negative 2 minutes to get to our flight to Columbus before takeoff. Our terminal was on the exact opposite side of the airport, which was good for cardio. We sprinted through the airport (using the term sprint lightly here...I would say it was more of a purposeful gallop). The doors were closed and they told us we couldn't get on...Timmons begged...and we boarded the plane wanting to throw up. I think the flight attendants thought we were famous, which didn't hurt. I am kinda just assuming that, although to be fair, one of them did say, "So are you guys famous or something?" So I guess that counts.

Landed in Columbus. Andy Brazelton picked us up. Luggage arrived. The only place to get food at midnight was a bar that provided its guests with the finest 80s and 90s hip hop the world can offer. Jake Rutenbar, Josh Griff, Matt McGill, and Alice Hibb showed up to join us. I don't think I've seen anything make Jake happier then the music at the restaurant. It was build your own quesadilla night, and McGill decided to get three. Alice only likes the chicken ones, which made this the best conversation of the night:

Alice: "Ugh...McGill...are ALL THREE of yours steak?"

McGill: "No. Steak and bacon."

that's all for now. day 1 is very much underway. Already time for dinner and then the first session.

Had the chance to catch my first Cal State Fullerton baseball game on Saturday. Roommate Mark and I were just sitting at the apartment bored, and I realized we could just go walk over and catch the last few innings. Fullerton is ranked in the top 10 coming in to the season, but managed to lose 2 out of 3 to Texas Christian this weekend. Not a bad view considering students get into games for FREE:

The United Nations: A cute idea.

Just watched a cool video explaining the recent United Nations request for 0.7 percent of the U.S. bailout AND stimulus packages. Basically, the United Nations believes that the struggling world economy is going to severely effect those in poverty, and therefore, they are requesting 0.7 percent, or about 6 billion dollars. Here's where this gets fun:

Below Average Citizen: "That sounds good...I don't like watching poverty...it makes me sad in my feelings...I want to make decisions without rational thinking and just do what feels right...and I know that poverty is not right because when I am trying to watch Next Top Model and a poverty commercial comes on I don't like it. Let's definitely give them 6 billion dollars...heck, I'll even give them another 10 of my own dollars!"

Actual Human with bonus thinking capabilities: "Hm. If our government is going to put 6 billion dollars into something, we should probably check on their financial accountability."

da da da da da da da da da da da da...what was that you said, Actual Human with ability to think? Did you say, CHECK ON THEIR FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY???!!! Lolz ROTFLOL!!! When have we ever done THAT?!?! Well....since you asked...fine...

September 4th, 2008: The United Nations Millennium Campaign Director, Eveline Herfkens, was found to have taken $280,000 dollars and spending on "Luxury Housing," including a nice penthouse suite. The Millennium Campaign is of course the U.N.'s new department set out to combat poverty, and is the very department that will receive any of the U.S. bailout funds. Unfortunately, their attempts at combatting poverty have only really put them in comfy suites.

July 28th, 2008: United Nations loses 25% of its money to the corrupt Myanmar government through currency exchange, but continues to request hundreds of millions more dollars to make up for it, and never discloses their losses. Hundreds of millions of dollars just handed to governments. I can work for money, pay my taxes, my government then uses it to support the U.N., and they give it to the Myanmar government. Sounds great. I'm all over that.

"Oh but David, the United Nations helps people." My question is, who helps people BEST? Let's give THEM money. I'll throw World Vision out there. Here is their Financial Accountability breakdown according to their website:

87%: Programs (this means actually helping people...I know it's hard to believe)
8%: Fundraising (which just produces more money for programs)
5%: Management & General

Five percent!!!??? That's it. What about the United Nations...how much of the money that gets thrown at them gets chopped off and given to employees before actually being used? Try 50%...fifty. So would it be that ridiculous to say that giving money to World Vision is TEN TIMES more efficient?

By the way, The United States does and has always financially supported the U.N. more so than any other country. Here's a nice list to show that:

United States: 22%
France: 6.4%
Britain: 5.5%
China: 1.5%
Russia: 1.2%

Cool video of Milton Friedman answering a question at a college in the late 70's. The student had a pretty good question that a lot of my friends always use to argue with me about Capitalism. It takes about halfway into the video before the students realize that they should stop talking and then he can finally explain some really cool points, the main point being that capitalism is only against government regulation because it's not the government's job...the government is to equip the courts to protect its citizens...kind of like that awesome idea that one country had at the beginning. What was it called? Oh yea...America.

Ebonics: Our planet's last hope

At this critical hour in our planet's history, our future hangs on a thin string. With every purchase of a new Hummer, every careless squirt of hairspray, and every anal release from a dairy cow, this world is one step closer to total destruction. That's right, civilians, I am talking about...

GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!!!!!!

...or cooling...or climate change. Depends what day of the week it is. But rest assured, we will all be paying for our careless environmental sins. Recently, the melting ice caps that were a certain sign of the dark ages, began "Coming back" according to scientists. This of course changes nothing about our inevitable doom, because according to the scientists, these ice caps only came back due to "Colder temperatures." I'm not a scientist or anything but I am going to go ahead and call that, "Winter."

Now don't let this little arctic trickery get you all relaxed in your nice middle class living room doing stupid middle class things like enjoying your family or legitimately caring about something other than yourself, all while leeching away at our natural resources. We need to do something to stop this disgusting cycle of cold and warm that so long has been disguised as seasons. And there is only one solution: Ebonics.

Saving our precious planet that may or may not actually need our help and may or not be actually warming or cooling depending on the time of year and the particular scientist and how Al Gore is feeling that day is all about protecting our natural resources. And if there is any natural resource that has clearly been neglected it is none other than OXYGEN. And if we could learn from anyone how to preserve this precious resource, it would have to be our ebonic speaking friends. Let us journey, shall we?

The language of ebonics has forever been based on the idea that awesome people don't have time for complete literary sentences, and therefore, have developed a way of communicating everything they need to say using less syllables, thus having more time for...uh...??

Let's break down a few sentences to explain this point:

English: "I am going to"

Ebonics: "Ima"

English: "Do you know what I mean?"

Ebonics: "Nawmean?"

Clearly these two simple examples show us an incredibly simple and effective solution for preserving one of our planet's greatest natural resources: syllables...er...I mean air. Either way, you're welcome, polar bears. I present this case to you for reasons twofold:

1. If Al Gore can win a Grammy...then so can I.

2. I'm a pretty big polar bear fan

3. I really like the movie, Boondock Saints

The future rests in our hands. Get out there and save some syllables, save some whales, and enjoy the cold weather while you can, before the dreaded global warming brings summer (somewhere around mid june).

I had the chance to speak in Wildside Jr. High Ministry this weekend on the subject of growth. I loved the challenge of trying to cram in two of the biggest concepts in Christianity...why should we grow...and how do we grow...into just one lesson. Overall, it was a great time, and I loved connecting funny stories/illustrations back to the Bible.

Of course I felt it necessary to include a few Microsoft Paint drawings, and I figured I would post them. Obviously they only make complete sense in light of the stories/illustrations, but regardless, here they are:

This was what I called my "Detailed Chart" that was from an illustration showing that if I knew a cute girl was coming over in the morning, I would be much more likely to make it a priority to wake up and get ready, then say if it were just my grandma. So the order of importance in that illustration is listed in the detailed chart.

Tuesday @ Fullerton

Second semester at Fullerton is officially two days in...and today featured many exciting moments. Our dear friend Joel slept over last night so he could have a fresh morning for his first day at big kid school. I decided to take for him the same picture I took on my first day of big kid school:

I walked Joel to the corner and sent him on his way, while I went to my first class. Later on, I showed Travis and Joel where the food court is...those rookies...so cute. We had a nice friend moment when we found two laurens and a margo also eating in the foodcourt...they were kind enough to take a picture of us boys enjoying the finer things that Cal State Fullerton has to offer:

As for my classes/education/college in general, here are my actual thoughts from the day:

*The majority of my professors could actually be legally insane, and may or may not receive federal money for it...I never thought I could be 21 years old, still in school, and still treated like a small lap dog...I had a teacher today tell us that when we do something good in class...like ask a question...or say something relevant...we should write down what we did on a card and put it into her "box" at the end of each class...but hooooold on there, kiddo...you are limited to 3 points per day, so don't just go asking away like it's friggin mardi gras or somethin..... Good thing Cal State Fullerton is so cheap.

*Oh while I'm at it, I should let you know that this IS NOT THE FIRST TEACHER I HAVE THAT DID THIS...that's right...last semester I had a teacher who would give us all a little card with our name on it...and take the card during the discussion if we "talked." That's it...just "talk." Some girl asked what day the final was on once and my teacher took her card for asking a good question.

*It's not like I don't think no one should be taught in this way...just preferrably NOT people who are supposed to be starting their careers in 3 months...

*Travis and I had a class today where the teacher literally took two and a half hours to go over her syllabus with us...I drew a picture for Travis of a large portion of my brain exploding into space...Travis wrote a checklist titled, "Things to bring to class," which included: Vicadin, Earplugs, and Sunglasses.

*Just got back from late night grocery shopping at Trader Joe's...I always feel like McCauley Colkin when I go grocery shopping by myself...which of course makes it very tempting to ask if a particular toothbrush is approved by the American Dental Association. Either way...Chilean Red seedless grapes.....daaaaaaaaaang. Worth it.

*Finally got a frame for the Ronald Reagan poster that my dear roommate, Mark got for me. Talk about 16 by 20 inches of pure America. It's printed on 100% fresh ground Bald Eagle manure.

...that's pretty much all I can think of right now. This semester is going to call for many more updates though...

dang. there is a pretty fine line between trendy and stupid. At the end of the day, I don't care if you think your little candidate can run an economy better than mine can, trying to be a relevant Christian has consequences. What a sad day for Christians who voted for this trash.

Let's go over a few things real quick, while I am angry:

1. In 2005, there were one-million, two-hundred thousand abortions in the United States alone.
2. Since countries have began reporting abortions, there have been 960,851,582 estimated abortions...almost ONE BILLION innocent deaths.
3. Speaking of avoidable deaths, I was just reading that the Halabja Poison Gas Attack of 1988 was the "Largest scale chemical weapons attack directed against a civilian-populated area in history"...of course this was issued by Saddam Hussein. No one cares, though right?

Here are some other fun facts about how Saddam enjoyed creatively killing his people:

*deliberate concentration of fire on Al-Husseini hospital and many of its doctors and nurses were executed. Patients were thrown out of windows.
*mass executions of suspected rebels in stadiums.

How come it is trendy to scream about how much no one in the world did anything to prevent the genocide in Rwanda, yet no one is allowed to talk about the same tortures in Iraq? What if the genocides in Rwanda happened while George Bush was president, and he tried to stop them? Would the same people who are trendy with their Africa bracelets and t-shirts be the trendy anti-war people then?

Who was president during the Rwanda genocides? Bill Clinton, yea? How come no one is angry at him for not doing anything, while spending their life savings on enough paint to cover their Prius's with anti-bush statements?

Don't be trendy. Being trendy will always make you look like an idiot, just give it time. If you live in America, there is a 99% chance that you know:

-nothing about starvation

-nothing about poverty

We had group presentations on certain technology related topics in my "Computers in Society" class over the last few weeks. The last group that presented talked about cloning. After it was all over, there was a class discussion on how everyone felt about cloning animals. Up till this point I hadn't really said anything in that class. I usually just sit in the back corner and occasionally look up. But as the discussion got heated as to which animals should be cloned, and if we could eat meat from cloned animals...blah blah...I felt it was time for some true wisdom to fall over the class...so I simply said this...

"I think just for a general rule, we should only clone cuddly animals."

I think it might have caught the class off guard, being the first time I had really opened my mouth all semester. But overall, it was very well received, and with such thorough insight into the problem, how could it not be...so long Computers in Society...I may or may not miss you...B

My First Genetic Discovery.

I finally found the time/resources to sketch up this little diagram that I have had in my head for quite some time now. I am working on a hypothesis that involves the idea that there is such a thing as being genetically American. While many claim that America is a "Melting Pot" of races and cultures, I beg to differ.

My claim is that true Americans possess a rare third blood cell type, to complete the trifecta of Red, White, and Blue. The rare Blue Blood Cells (BBC's), much like red or white blood cells, have a specific function as well. In the True American Bodily System (T.A.B.S.), the red and white blood cells go about their regular functions of transporting oxygen and fighting disease. However, the BBC's perform a specific task of their own, which is not found in any other human body system: Killing terrorists.

The following diagram should help you understand a little more clearly:

To recap, there are three main blood cells and purposes in the American blood stream:

1. Red Blood Cells -- Transport oxygen

2. White Blood Cells -- Fight disease

3. Blue Blood Cells (Found only in True Americans) -- Kill Terrorists

In some cases, the blue blood cells have also been found to perform the following tasks:

1. Fight Communism

2. Lower taxes

3. Feed orphans

Wow. I think I am going to type out some actual quotes just in case you missed them:

First of all...the whole concept of "Change"...and now..."Change has come" is so ridiculous. Change is not a positive or negative word. Good change is good. Bad change is bad. If you are referring to a change from every other president being white...then yes you got that...but just because his skin color is different it doesn't mean he is bringing positive change by anything he actually will do as president...so I guess that makes you the racist.

Second...did you catch how ridiculously productive that guy was with his obama victory plate in the background of his workspace? Maybe it's time for the Wildside staff to swap out their Reagan portraits...eh guys?

It's weird to me that you can fit a world changing moment, a confident smile, kind eyes, a fireworks show, and our nation's flag onto one plate...but can't manage to fit any of the actual characteristics of the person. Maybe on the back you can put a nice description of his economic policy that is so liberal it makes socialists cringe.

If I made these plates, I would just put on the back "A cute idea." It would represent everything that liberalism stands for: Emotion. Socialism might be the cutest thing that anyone has ever come up with. The idea of it working is absolutely adorable. I can't wait till America becomes a large scale version of my kindergarten class...

Apparently a small Christian college is putting on a play called "Terror Texts" that includes some of the more gruesome and dramatic parts of the bible.

In American Pop Culture class today...this conversation actually happened:

Me (First thing I have said in the last 4 weeks of class): Uh...Jazz.

Teacher: Exactly!!!!...African Americans in jazz music

COME ON!!!!!!! YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!! IS THERE A SINGLE HISTORICAL ACCOMPLISHMENT WE CAN LEARN ABOUT WITHOUT FOCUSING ON WHAT ETHNICITY THE INVENTOR WAS???!!!!!!

Don't teach people about Jazz music just because it was invented by African Americans. Teach it because it was good. Of course there was history to it, but there was history to a lot of things people did that sucked...jazz is not one of those things. I already took history of jazz, and most of the class had never even listened to jazz music before. By the end of the semester, lots of people ended up enjoying it. They didn't go buy classic jazz albums because they were so proud of black people for overcoming adversity. They liked it.

If we are only talking about these things in class so that you can go to sleep at night feeling like you made us more culturally sensitive then you have a lot bigger problems then trying to save the world from racism.

My teacher in my last class was trying to teach us about latino/chicano/mexican/latin america/spanish/am i politically correct yet culture...

She used Selena as an example...and showed us youtube clips of her performing some of her "hit" songs...all of them were in spanish...

that's funny, professor...because I don't remember "Dreaming of You" or "I Could Fall in Love" being in spanish...

...and according to iTunes...and my heart....those are her greatest songs. Clearly, professor, you are not the Selena fan you pretend to be.

And for the record, English is the language of love...and by English...I mean American.
